Research

We began our research by comparing features of event-planning applications. Some of these applications and sites focused on messaging friends. Some were a combination of event information and messaging. After this, we individually interviewed our target users – young city-dwelling professionals. Our intention was to validate our hypothesis and uncover any other problems users encounter.

     

    Synthesis

    Affinity Mapping & Persona

    We began our research by comparing features of event-planning applications. Some of these applications and sites focused on messaging friends. Some were a combination of event information and messaging. After this, we individually interviewed our target users – young city-dwelling professionals. Our intention was to validate our hypothesis and uncover any other problems users encounter.

    We found that our interviewees and survey takers’ last-minute plans were often repetitive and not creative, despite their desire for varied experiences.  Respondents listed going to dinner, happy hour, coffee or a movie. 

    The affinity map also revealed that the greatest challenges our respondents faced were:

    1. deciding what to do
    2. finding available friends

    We created a persona based upon these results:

    As a group we individually sketched wireframes, compared our sketches and combined designs.

    Guerilla Usability Testing

    Finding

    Usability testing revealed that for some users, it was unclear what would happen to the event after the user clicks the check mark.

    Solution

    Chosen activities populate to the top of the screen and the list of chosen activities visibly grows and can be accessed
